5 Squarespace features you may have missed...

Squarespace is a fantastic tool with a ton of nifty little built-in features and functions that can make the user's life jus that little bit easier. Here are a few that you may have missed and (in our opinion) some of the most useful!

1) Drag and Drop images to switch

Changing images on Squarespace is super easy and (provided your images are appropriate sizes) very quick.

However, it can be an even quicker process - you don't have to open the image settings and click 'remove' before uploading a replacement image, you can just drag and drop the new one right on top!

So simple, but often not totally obvious. You can actually log in from ANY page of your Squarespace site, simply by pressing your ESC Key. It's pretty nifty, especially if you've got multiple site's associated with your account and you can really quickly and easily get to the Dashboard.

It's also pretty useful as a way of quickly checking if a website you're on is built using Squarespace (before digging down in to the site's elements and working out the template code etc). Hit ESC and if a log in page pops up you know it's a Squarespace site!

3) Favicon

Your favicon is displayed next to your main site name in the user's browser.

A favi-what?! A favicon (favourite icon) is 'an icon associated with a particular website, typically displayed in the address bar of a browser accessing the site or next to the site name in a user's list of bookmarks'. Your website's favicon is also displayed on open tabs if you're using a browser like Chrome.

We're always surprised at how many Squarespace site's we still come across that have totally missed this one! When you don't set a favicon, Squarespace automatically place their dark cube icon there.

To set yours head to Design > Logo & Title > Browser Icon (Favicon). and upload your own icon/logo.

4) Search page

Did you know that your website already has a built-in search function and dedicated page? All Squarespace websites do - simple head to www.yourdomain.com/search and you'll find your website's search page.

You can link directly to this page in your navigation under the heading 'Search' if you want! Or you could even go a step further and add a little magnifying glass icon like our site.

To achieve this all you'd need to do is:

1) Add the following code in to the site header Code Injection area by heading to Settings > Advanced > Code Injection > Header.

<link href="//maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/font-awesome/4.1.0/css/font-awesome.min.css" rel="stylesheet">

2) Add a link to the navigation where you wish to have the icon - set the target as www.yourdomain.com/search and name it the following:

<i class=" fa fa-search"></i>

5) Restore deleted pages

Believe it or not, it can be a easy mistake to make!

You might have accidentally deleted a page when you meant to save in the Settings pop up window or even when you were just trying to select it on the Pages left hand menu (it's happened to us a bunch of times!). It may even be the case that you deleted a page to redesign it and you'd now like to bring it back to life - either way it's totally possible.

Squarespace actually keep any page you delete for 30 days before fully removing it from the system. All you have to do is click on 'Deleted Pages' under the 'Not Linked' area and you'll see all of the pages you deleted (including template example pages) in the last 30 days. Hover your mouse over a page and you'll see the 'Restore' option, click here and it'll go straight back where it was before!

It's like nothing ever happened...
